21st Jul 2019 - Fishing Report w/e 21st July 2019

This week we held the 11th annual UK Junior TroutMasters Final, we had a total of 27 juniors fishing with only 12 able to qualify for the final. It was a close competition for some of the anglers, with only 2 fish between qualifying and not. All of the talented anglers showed such great etiquette and sportsmanship between each other and throughout the competition. The weather over the weekend was very changeable, especially the wind which was at times quite swirly this was making for some challenging fishing conditions.
The winners of the individual heats were:
• George Clarke - Draycote water
• Wilbur Leoviriyakit - Woolsaton Trout Fishery
• Ethan Welsh - Tan Y Mynydd Fishery
The anglers above and the other qualifiers now went on to fish in the final, the anglers knew it wasn’t going to be an easy 3 hours of fishing, with the bright and breezy conditions. However all of the juniors were understandably fully enthusiastic about hopefully being crowned the ‘2019 UK Junior TroutMaster champion’. It was great to see all of the juniors giving it 100% effort throughout the qualifying heats and during the final right until the final whistle blow. It was very close competition with 1st and 2nd place being decided by the time of which their second fish was caught. However we are very pleased to announce Sam Shepherd from Exe Valley fishery is the champion this year, very well done Sam.
Prizes were also given to the runners up of the competition, and to the most consistent angler, this went to George Clarke of Draycote water. Charlie Southworth of New Mills Trout Fishery took the award for the best fish landed over the weekend, a beautiful 4.5lb Rainbow. The Top 4 anglers from the final were Ethan Welsh, Charlie Southworth, Lee Gilruth and the Champion Sam Shepherd.
GAIA have provided casting tuition and awards over the weekend, and the coaches were all very impressed with the standard or both casting and general angling. We would like to thank all of the Parents and Children for attending the event, and also a big thank you to Samantha and Ian Toombs from Trout Fisherman for organising and running the event. Finally a thanks to all of the marshals, Barry, Richard and Kevin from GAIA, Tommy, Davey, Pete and Kyle from New Mills Trout Fishery who have given up their weekend to help at the competition. Also thanks to The Thrunton Team, Tom, Chris and Julie for helping to make the weekend run so smoothly.
The event was so kindly sponsored by Royal Wulff, and prizes giving by Iain Barr and Glasgow Angling Center. It has also been great to see so many spectators coming to watch the national competition, and support those fishing.
