22nd Jul 2018 - Fishing report w/e 22nd July 2018

The UK Junior Troutmasters Final was held at Thrunton Long Crag this weekend with children travelling from Cornwall in the south to Dundee in the north. The bright conditions and searing heat did make fishing extremely challenging but the final turned out to be both exciting and close and went to the final whistle, where any one of four anglers could have been crowned champion. James Penwright from Tan-y-Mynydd Fishery landed the first fish in the final and finished 4th, Michael Osmand from Tavistock Trout Fishery in Cornwall was 3rd and netted a very credible 7 fish to win his heat. Elliot Guthrie representing Thrunton was a close second and the UK Junior Champion was Harrison Douds representing Sharpely Springs. A great result for the North East !It is always a pleasure watching such talented ,knowledgeable and keen young anglers at work -well done! A huge thank you must go to all the parents and grandparents ,their support is very much appreciated. Thanks to all the marshals for doing such a great job and volunteering 2 days of their time to support this event – the GAIA instructors Barry, Richard and Kevin and the team from New Mills Fishery – Davey, Tommy, Mick and Pete. The event ran very smoothly thanks to the Thrunton team - Steve ,Joe ,Tom and Adam and of course to Samantha Toombes and Jeffery Prest from Trout Fisherman magazine who organised the competition so well. The event was kindly sponsored by Royal Wulff, with generous prizes from Pure Fishing of Alnwick, Andy Richmond, Ian Barr and Glasgow Angling Centre - thank you to you all for your generosity . We were also pleased to welcome Charles Jardine who kindly gave an excellent casting demonstration and offered his expert advice to the youngsters throughout the day. A really good weekend was had by all and it was great to see so many spectators coming along to support and watch this national competition.
